About Máxima
The series tells the fascinating life story of Dutch Queen Máxima. About the journey from her early life in Argentina and New York to her future as Queen of the Netherlands. From the moment Máxima Zorreguieta appears at the side of the Dutch crown prince, she is in the spotlight. When Willem-Alexander asks her to marry him, the past catches up to her as a heated discussion erupts about her father’s political career in the Videla regime. A discussion never held in her own circles. What makes this Argentinian finally flourish at an old European court? And how can Máxima stay true to herself without giving up her family, or do the two things not go together?

Máxima’s story is told in six 50-minute episodes, starting in 1999 in Seville, when Máxima and Willem-Alexander first meet.

The series is based on the book “Máxima Zorreguieta: Motherland” by Marcia Luyten published by the Bezige Bij. The lead roles are played by Delfina Chaves (Máxima) and Martijn Lakemeier (Willem-Alexander). Beatrix is played by Elsie de Brauw and Sebastian Koch performs the role of Claus.

‘Máxima’ is produced by Rachel van Bommel of Millstreet Films, in co-production with FBO and Beta Film, with the support of the Netherlands Film Fund Production Incentive, the Creative Europe MEDIA program and the Belgian Tax Shelter. It is directed by Saskia Diesing, Joosje Duk and Iván López Núñez. The screenplay is written by Marnie Blok, Ilse Ott, Judith Goudsmit, Diede Zillinger Molenaar, Sytske Kok and Marcela Guerty.

The first season of Máxima has been available to watch in the Netherlands on Videoland since the 20th of April, 2024. Millstreet Films will start production of the second season soon.
